Story
(Recorded at Paragon Studios---Chicago, Illinois 1978)
The story that comes with this song is one that most men go through once they’ve found the girl that really puts a glow in their heart…The lyrics were written by Albert White, one of the original writers of K-City Records. When Albert first met his wife, they were lovers and no one could come between them. Everything just seemed to click for them.
Albert first went to Keith Montgomery and presented the lyrics to him. Keith thought the track would be a great dance song if we put the right music behind it. Keith began to work on the music and arrangement and added to the lyrics to cause the song to flow with the music. While Keith was working on the music and arrangement, Albert then gave the song to Eugene Smiley to consider singing the song with his attacking style. These three made up the team at K-City Records who would go on to write more songs together.
If you will notice in the lyrics to this song, Albert is telling his "now wife" how much he love's her and that he is willing to do anything to spend the rest of his life with her. He goes on to express that she looks so nice and she is sweeter than anyone he could imagine. You know when love has come; there are no questions as to how you feel about each other. You just know, and that is what this song is expressing.
When Eugene first read the lyrics and heard the music and arrangement it wasn't long before he wrote and arranged the melody line. He and Keith made sure they left it open enough to add background vocals. The amazing thing about the melody line and the background vocals is that the background vocals are answering the lead vocal which was unheard of in 1978. Eugene is attacking some of the phrases causing the background vocals to respond in the same manor.
Albert White, Keith Montgomery and Eugene Smiley made this song a masterpiece.
